Today I find myself in Elona, Land of the Golden Sun, to help the sunspears drive evil out of their land. Spearmarshal Kormir has sent word to Tyria and Cantha that adventurers are needed once again. I can’t turn down an offer to fight for a good cause and it lets me finally get a chance to explore Elona. On my arrival to the capital of Istan: Kamadan, I was shocked at how many people crowded this city. At first I thought that these adventurers had come to fight in the war, but they mostly seem concerned about trading goods. It seems like a great place because everyones interest is directed here, but trying to sell or buy stuff can be difficult because the noise of others drowns out your requests. Moving onto business, I invited Catfish and Cver to help me explore the Plains of Jarin. Although before leaving I asked my new friend Dunkoro to come along. He is a sunspear “hero” monk, and I’ve found him to be more knowledgable with healing magic than Alesia. He has agreed to serve as our guide through Istan because we could not find any Elonian adventurers to escort us.

One of the nice things about visiting Istan so far is that even though it is very hot here, you can usually get sight of the coastline and get your feet wet. When a breeze passes by, it makes the experience even more delightful.

Our first encounters in this area were with aggressive plant life and large insects. Seeing a large tree up ahead of us, we took the opportunity to rest under it and chat. Because we are new to the area I asked Dunkoro what it means to be a sunspear. He may not be of the same authority as Kormir, but I value his advice because he has lived a long life serving the Order. The question made him pause for a moment before answering, as if he were giving the question great thought. We learned that the Order of the Sunspear is devoted to protecting the land of Elona. It’s members seek to help in times of peace and war. This is much more than just a simple job. Sunspears are expected to do good deeds all the time. He suggested that if we wish to become great sunspears, that we should take up monster bounties and help people in need when possible.

It wasn’t long before I noticed the Sunspear Great Hall. I learned from Dunkoro that this is one of Istani’s the oldest structures.

When we approached the hall, I noticed a ranger with an impressive hog. The man’s name was Nehdukah, and after he talked about how he tamed the warthog, he went on to tell us about his encounter with the Black Moa. Far away from here, in the Echovald Forest he tracked down the bird and her clutch of eggs. When another adventurer who was also tracking it was spotted by the bird, he heroically sprang into action to try and save her. She had already lost an eye, but he managed to pull her to safety. For his kindness she gave him two eggs, which he apparently lost because that is where his story ends. When our party was out of ear range from Nehdukah, Dunkoro told me that it had really been the other adventurer that saved Nehdukah.

On the north-west coast, Dunkoro pointed out the outpost in the distance called the Astralarium. This is home to the Order of the Sky, a group of astronomers who gather here to study the sky. Scholars from all over the world come here to seeking their wisdom.

At first I thought this was a funny looking crane, but I quickly learned that it is a flamingo. Native to Elona, these birds feast on pink shrimp which gives them their distinctive color.

Besides insects, the areas to the west that are filled with water are inhabited by irontooth drakes and skale. I’ve heard that the drakes in particular are very tasty. People from far away Vabbi love coming to Istani for drake kabobs.

Cver, Catfish and I gathered at the Sunspear Great Hall to celebrate and say our goodbyes.
